Have you ever heard a story about someone with head lice and then felt itchy for the rest of the day? There is a reason for this “contagious itching”! Researchers at Temple University* used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to get some answers. fMRI offers a way to measure brain activity by detecting changes associated with cerebral blood flow. Earlier this week, SkinCare Physicians’ family nurse practitioner, Katie Brodt, gave a lecture on “Disorders of the Skin: What Nurses Need to Know” at the 12th annual Clinical Nursing Conference organized by the Massachusetts Nurses Association. Her talk was part of a continuing nursing education program. Congratulations to SkinCare Physicians’ Dr. Jeffrey Sobell for being selected as Speaker of the Day by the over 700 dermatologists in attendance at the 2016 Fall Clinical Dermatology Conference, last weekend in Las Vegas. Dr. Sobell’s talk was entitled Incorporating Biologics into Clinical Practice. It gave a very practical overview of the indications in dermatology for biologic treatments (moderate to severe psoriasis and moderate to severe hidradenitis suppurativa). Dr. Jeffrey Sobell, Director of the Psoriasis Treatment Center at SkinCare Physicians, was part of a select group of psoriasis specialists who reviewed new data presented at the European Academy of Dermatology meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark this October. “We have already made tremendous strides in treating psoriasis in the last decade, yet continued innovation is leading to even more effective therapies.
