Dr. Michael Kaminer did a story with Dr. Mallika Marshall for CBS Boston News, about how difficult it is to get people to wear sunscreen, despite all the public education and statistics about skin cancer risks. Getting the message through to patients is like “knocking his head against a coconut,” Dr. Kaminer said. “There is something about having a tan that makes people, in particular young people, feel either better or empowered or stronger and that tan translates to other things, and our message is fighting against a very powerful equation on the other side,” he added. “We haven’t figured out how to solve that puzzle yet.”

The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) recently had its 35th Annual Conference, Laser 2015, in Kissimmee, Florida. This year, as usual, many doctors from SkinCare Physicians played a prominent part in the meeting as they have in this organization from its inception. Those involved actively participated in podium presentations of research, planning and moderating courses, delivering talks in multiple teaching sessions and other activities. They were Drs. Arndt, Dover, Kaminer, Rohrer and Robinson, and Fellow doctors Desai, Prather and Kruter.
Examples of topics addressed by SkinCare Physicians’ dermatologists during courses and presentations included:
Among those present at Laser 2015, were SkinCare Physicians’ doctors who happened to be founding members, two past presidents, board of directors’ members, program directors, multiple section leaders from several years, members of numerous committees, journal editorial board members, task force leaders, and multiple recipients of honorary awards and lectureships in recognition of scholarly contributions and service to laser medicine and surgery.
SkinCare Physicians is honored to be featured in the May issue of PSP: Plastic Surgery Practice. The article is a wonderful gift for our 15th anniversary! It tells the story of our medical and cosmetic dermatology practice near Boston in accurate terms.
We wanted to “shake up […] the way that dermatology is practiced by creating an all-new care-delivery model: a private academic practice”. Fifteen years later, we “[…] have exceeded whatever thoughts we had and what this type of practice can do, and even after 15 years, I don’t believe that there are any other groups similar to ours around the country,[…]” said Dr. Kenneth Arndt to the editor.

Earlier this week, SkinCare Physicians’ Dr. Michael Kaminer explained to CBS Boston News how the new Cellfina treatment for Cellulite works. Dr. Kaminer was part of the team that developed Cellfina. The first treatment was performed 5 years ago in our offices, followed by a series of clinical trials. The procedure has now been cleared by the FDA!

Drs. Michael Kaminer and Deanne Robinson, who conducted the studies that resulted in the FDA approval of Cellfina for long term improvement of cellulite, are extensively quoted in this article from Beauty In The Bag. “A staggering 64 million women between the ages of 24-45 in the U.S. spend $1B on cellulite treatments every year, says Dr. Robinson. And as we all know, most of the available treatments don’t make a huge difference. […] We see visible results in three days, and patients continue to look even better over time,” she said. Today is One Boston Day, and Mayor Marty Walsh asks us all, “What will you do?”. Here at Skincare Physicians, we are still providing state-of-the art laser treatments to those injured and scarred in the blasts 2 years ago, through our Boston Marathon Project Heal.
One of the individuals treated through this project recently had this to say:
“Words cannot describe it, but there it goes! Having the laser treatments done have allowed me to become proud of my ‘battle wounds’. I was embarrassed of them before, but now I can be proud. I truly believe in the quote I found… ‘Never be ashamed of a scar, it simply means you were stronger than what tried to hurt you’.
I can’t say thank you enough for everything that you at SkinCare Physicians have done for me and all the other survivors that received treatments. Despite missing some of my leg, I was able to return back to feeling ‘normal’ and ‘pretty’ because of you guys!”
The New England Dermatological Society celebrated its 100th anniversary this past weekend. It was a wonderful opportunity for SkinCare Physicians’ Drs. Tania Phillips (immediate past President), Jeffrey Sobell (past president), Kenneth Arndt (past President) and Jeffrey Dover (past President) to visit with colleagues, including Drs. Sam Moschella of Lahey Clinic and Harvard Medical School, and Bill James professor at University of Pennsylvania. Many renowned dermatologists reminisced over the progress that was made in dermatology over the last 100 years. Dr. Arndt presented the history of the Archives of Dermatology, while Dr. Sobell spoke on the history of psoriasis treatment.
