SkinCare Physicians’ Dr. Tom Rohrer was recently quoted in an article in the February issue of the Harvard Health Letter about the new official guidelines for Mohs surgery. Mohs surgery is a procedure that removes skin cancer while minimizi…ng damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
"There can be a slight bias toward using it for almost all nonmelanoma skin cancers, since Mohs surgery offers the highest cure rate of any surgical procedure for skin cancer," said Dr. Rohrer. These new guidelines will help dermatologists better select patients for the procedure and may also help patients save some money. "Down the road, some patients may find that insurance companies will not pay for them to have certain skin cancers treated with Mohs surgery, and they will have to opt for less sophisticated techniques", Dr. Rohrer added.
