There are many important events and milestones in our lives. Whether it is your wedding, a friend or family member’s wedding, a reunion, or another important event, preparing your skin well ahead of time will help to make sure you look your best for this special occasion. Follow these 4 tips from our team of dermatologists in Boston and you will glow the day of your big event.
#1 Get in a good routine. Our skin looks best when we care for it on a daily basis and don’t neglect it. Be sure to cleanse twice daily to gently remove oils and environmental toxins and decrease your risk of acne breakouts. Exfoliate twice weekly to remove dull skin cells and bring younger, plumper cells to the surface. Protect your skin daily from ultraviolet radiation and environmental toxins with a broad spectrum sunscreen and antioxidants. Help your skin to repair itself nightly by applying products that contain peptides, growth factors, and retinols or prescription strength retinoids.
#2 Make sure you address concerns like acne early. Acne is a common condition affecting not only teenagers, but also adults. What most patients don’t realize is that acne regimens don’t work over night. We ask that patients allow at least 3 months for their regimen to fully work. Oftentimes changes or additions need to be made to regimens so the sooner you begin addressing the acne, the better. Even when our acne is well controlled, painful deep pimples known as cysts can occur, especially when we become stressed. Don’t fret, a procedure involving injecting the cyst with diluted steroid will help expedite its healing.
#3 Visit our aestheticians. A medical cleansing (facial) involving a deep pore cleansing, exfoliation, and extractions can help jump start your routine. Glycolic acid and other enzyme peels help to remove older, dead skin cells from the surface, improve dyspigmentation and give the skin an overall glow. A series of these peels before your big day or event will add that extra glow to your skin on that day.
#4 Plan ahead for cosmetic procedures. There are many minimally invasive procedures available to improve your appearance including Botox/Dysport/Xeomin, fillers, lasers, amongst others. Each of these procedures has its own downtime and risks including bruising and swelling. Schedule a consultation well ahead of time so you can familiarize yourself with these procedures, learn about their associated downtime, and plan accordingly. It is often best to do procedures at least one month prior to your special day or event!
Every detail counts when getting ready for a big event. Don’t overlook your skin and don’t wait until the last minute to look your best! Start preparing now and call the expert dermatologists and aestheticians at SkinCare Physicians if you decide to treat yourself to a customized cosmetic program that will get your skin glowing on time.
