Once again, SkinCare Physicians tops the list of dermatology practices with most of its physicians named as Top Doctors by Boston Magazine. Over the past decade, many of our practitioners have appeared regularly in this annual list of top physicians. In the December 2012 issue of Boston Magazine, an astounding eight of our physicians were named as top doctors, seven in the dermatology category (Drs. Kenneth Arndt, Jeffrey Dover, Michael Kaminer, Kay Kane, Thomas Rohrer, Jeffrey Sobell, and Robin Travers) and one in the ophthalmology section (Dr. Katrinka Heher). This makes three years running that seven of our dermatologists have been … Continue reading »
“I think she’s pretty, but I don’t want to look like…” is a comment our dermatologists still hear from patients in Boston. While BOTOX has been used safely over the past 15 years in over 20 million people, many patients are afraid of the end result appearing “too plasticy,” or looking “too waxy.” This is an issue that can be seen in many current celebrities and perhaps an acquaintance or two. During discussions about treatments for facial rejuvenation, patients regularly ask me for advice on how to improve the look and feel of their hands. Our hands are as vulnerable as our face to aging and the effects of the sun and the environment, but they are often overlooked. Common manifestations of aging and sun exposure include wrinkles, skin thinning, and brown spots. Below are seven tips that can help your hands look younger.
Do you have a blue bump or swelling on your lip? If so, you may have a venous lake. These fairly common blue/purple soft bumps or swellings are caused by a single dilated vein. They mainly appear on sun-exposed surfaces such as lips and ears, and generally occur in those over 40 years old. While not dangerous, they usually grow slowly, can get in the way of chewing and eating, and they don’t look particularly nice.
Fraxel® laser treatments have revolutionized our ability to improve skin texture and color. Our experience shows that a series of 6 treatments usually performed every 4 weeks with the 1550 nm device produces dramatic improvement in fine to moderate wrinkles, while the 1927 nm device is especially helpful for sun-induced skin discoloration. The biggest downside is that the treatments are uncomfortable and they leave patients red and a bit puffy for about 3 days. Typically, individuals have these done either early in the week so they can be ready for the weekend, or on a Friday afternoon so they can … Continue reading »
“Is it too early?” is a question often asked by someone considering a procedure to enhance their skin appearance, such as starting to use Botox or Dysport, have a filler injection, or receive a light or laser treatment. My feeling is that it is almost NEVER “too-early”.
