Many individuals are self-conscious about their stretch marks, including teenagers, adults, men and women. While not harmful to the health, nobody enjoys seeing them in the mirror. Unfortunately, once stretchmarks appear they don’t go away. The good news is that cosmetic dermatology practices, such as SkinCare Physicians in Brookline Mass, have effective laser treatments that can significantly improve their appearance. But first, let’s understand what causes stretch marks. Why do stretch marks appear? Stretch marks are distinct lines on the skin that can occur after any relatively quick stretching of the skin. Causes include teenage growth spurts, weight gain, pregnancy … Continue reading »
It’s hard to believe that just over 15 years ago there was no such thing as laser hair removal. Now lasers and light sources are used the world over to permanently remove hair with little discomfort and little effort. Developed by Harvard dermatologists, this technique has revolutionized hair removal. While the effectiveness and safety of laser hair removal devices are no longer in question, results and patients’ satisfaction depend on several factors. Brown/black hair vs. blonde/white hair Laser hair removal is effective in most individuals regardless of the color of their skin. However, brown and black hair can be permanently … Continue reading »
For over a decade, the Fraxel family of lasers has been a mainstay of skin rejuvenation treatments at SkinCare Physicians. These lasers are superb at improving fine lines and wrinkles, removing brown spots and pigmentation, and creating an overall improvement in skin texture and quality. However, one of the limiting aspects of Fraxel laser treatments has been recovery, in some cases up to a week. Our patients are universally pleased with Fraxel results, but often comment that the procedure would be so much easier if we could only shorten the recovery time. Well, in our never ending quest to improve … Continue reading »

Previously, fat under the chin, underarm bulges, inner thighs, and back fat could only be effectively treated with liposuction or surgery. CoolSculpting technology has changed the … Continue reading »
Careful medical record keeping is one of the essential aspects of delivering good medical care. When SkinCare Physicians opened its doors in 2000, we saw patients and recorded our visits in an old-fashioned paper chart. By 2008, we had transitioned to an electronic charting system that involved scanning the paper records of our patients. We still wrote in our charts as we always did, but these sheets of paper were securely scanned into a system that allowed improved tracking and management. And now, in 2017, we are moving to a truly electronic medical record (EMR)! During your future visits, you will … Continue reading »
As we are transitioning to cooler weather, it’s a good time to think “aesthetic chemical peel”. Fall and winter are optimal seasons to get a peel treatment as we tend to stay indoor more, lowering the level of UV exposure from the sun while our skin recovers. Getting into a yearly aesthetic peel routine is our aesthetician Meredith’s favorite way to achieve that no makeup glow. While the benefits of exfoliation speak for themselves, getting a professional grade exfoliation treatment, such as an aesthetic peel, is something you can feel and see immediately. Fear aesthetic chemical peels no more Many … Continue reading »
