As we age, looseness of neck skin can be a frustrating concern. In years past, the only option for treatment was surgery, but fortunately, technology has improved dramatically over the past 20 years. While we have multiple options for skin tightening at SkinCare Physicians, many patients are excellent candidates for a non-invasive treatment that combines radiofrequency (RF), or heat, and microneedling.
Men and women who start noticing loose or sagging skin at the neck or jawline may be candidates for RF microneedling. This procedure can also lead to improvement of horizontal neck lines and facial fine lines and wrinkles. Unlike some lasers, RF Microneedling can be used for patients of all skin types and colors, and for a wide range of ages.
Combining radiofrequency and microneedling in one treatment allows us to take advantage of more than one collagen stimulating mechanism at the same time and get better results more efficiently.
At SkinCare Physicians, we have three RF microneedling devices to choose from when making an individualized treatment plan for neck tightening: the Legend, Morpheus8 and Genius Pro. Your cosmetic physician can direct you towards the best option for your concerns.
Protocols include a series of three sessions, which are completed in monthly intervals. One advantage to this type of procedure is that down time is minimal. Recovery takes place over 2-7 days, depending on the chosen device, and is characterized by pink skin and mild speckling in a grid pattern.
Results may continue to appear for up to 6 months after a series of RF microneedling treatments. Improvements include a smoother tighter neck and jawline. Many people also see improvement in fine lines and wrinkles and the device can also be used for acne scarring.
Furthermore, radiofrequency devices can have preventive benefit to help us slow the aging process and hopefully, prevent or postpone the need for more aggressive treatments in the future.
If you are bothered by lax neck skin, schedule a consultation with one of our dermatologists. You may be a good candidate for RF microneedling.
