Cosmetic Safety Alert: Three Anatomy Questions to Ask Your Injector

Published on Dec 17th, 2024 by Michael Kaminer, MD

If you’re thinking about having cosmetic injections, such as Botox or fillers, safety should be at the top of your mind when deciding where to have these treatments performed. Unfortunately, there has been a proliferation of inadequately trained injectors in recent years, which has led to a rise in serious complications. Those of us who have been practicing cosmetic dermatology for decades are alarmed by this trend, and continue to seek ways to educate the public to improve safety. While the obvious first steps might appear to be having treatments performed by board-certified physicians in specialties such as dermatology and … Continue reading »

The Myth of Smoker’s Lines

Published on Jun 13th, 2024 by Michael Kaminer, MD

It’s time to address the pervasive myth that wrinkles of the upper lip are “smoker’s lines”. That simply is no longer true, yet this fallacy has been persistent in our national lexicon for decades. While it is accurate that cigarette smoke has a toxic effect on collagen (along with virtually every other part of the human body), what isn’t true is that it is the primary cause of wrinkles around the mouth (also called perioral wrinkles). Smoking cigarettes certainly won’t help with your skin quality or propensity for wrinkles, but other more dastardly forces are at work. Sun exposure, environmental … Continue reading »

Can too much Botox age you?

Published on Feb 2nd, 2024 by Michael Kaminer, MD

Co-authored with Dr. Jeffrey Dover Sometimes the internet simply gets it wrong.  There was a recent article posted to CNN Health that claimed “Too much Botox can age you”. Specifically, the article (with input from medical professionals) stated that “getting injections for a prolonged period of time” can lead to more rather than less aging. Nothing can be farther from the truth!  At SkinCare Physicians, our leading experts have been performing Botox and similar injections (Dysport, Daxxify) for nearly 30 years.  After treating thousands of patients every 4-6 months (on average), we have NEVER seen an example of accelerated aging.  … Continue reading »

Published on Nov 20th, 2023 by Michael Kaminer, MD

Have you seen friends or celebrities with puffy cheeks and overstuffed lips? Foreheads and eyes that have an odd appearance? Unfortunately, these outcomes are everywhere, but the good news is that they are completely avoidable. Patients and physicians both have a tendency to over-complicate anti-aging treatment, which leads to unnecessary procedures and some weird outcomes. SkinCare Physicians’ system follows the K.I.S.S. System: “Keep It Simple, Stupid”! We only need a combination of 4 proven procedures to naturally enhance … Continue reading »

Daxxify, the newest wrinkle buster

Published on Mar 16th, 2023 by Michael Kaminer, MD

Daxxify is here! The most significant advance in neuromodulators in over a decade has finally arrived at SkinCare Physicians. Botox and Dysport have been at the center of a revolution in wrinkle reduction and aging prevention for over 20 years. They help to soften muscle movement, which in turn reduces wrinkles, improves eyebrow position, and creates a more relaxed appearance. Daxxify (Daxxi) is the newest generation of neuromodulators, and has the significant advantage of longer lasting results. Much of the original research was performed at SkinCare Physicians and shows that Daxxi can last as long as 6-9 months. This increased … Continue reading »

Avoiding unnatural results with cosmetic injections

Published on Feb 1st, 2022 by Michael Kaminer, MD

As we begin 2022, the popularity of injectable cosmetic procedures such as neurotoxins (Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, Xeomin), and fillers (Restylane, Juvederm, Teoxane, Belotero, Sculptra, Radiesse) continues to expand.  Patients are drawn to the immediacy and the non-invasive nature of these powerful interventions. When performed by skilled injectors, they are safe, effective and produce beautiful natural results for a wide range of patients of all ages and skin types. Yet we still see many people with overdone faces. This blog attempts to understand why, and offers advice on how to ensure you get the natural looking results you deserve with fillers … Continue reading »

Cellulite treatment update: We can now treat virtually all types of dimples

Published on Apr 27th, 2021 by Michael Kaminer, MD

The world of cellulite is changing rapidly! The FDA has recently approved two new treatments (Qwo and Soliton) to add to the previously approved Cellfina and Sculptra therapies. WE CAN NOW EFFECTIVELY TREAT ALL TYPES OF CELLULITE! Cellfina Just a few short years ago, cellulite treatments were essentially snake oil. Nothing worked, and hype far outpaced substance. That all changed with the introduction of Cellfina, which was conceived of and developed at SkinCare Physicians. The essential piece of the Cellfina story is fibrous septae. Fibrous septae are thin strands of collagen that attach the skin to underlying structures. One theory … Continue reading »

SkinCare Physicians: The story of a unique partnership

Published on Jan 16th, 2020 by Michael Kaminer, MD

The cornerstone of a successful dermatology practice Since the time of its inception in 2000, the goal of SkinCare Physicians (SCP) has been to become the highest quality, most widely respected state-of-the-art dermatology practice possible. Under the guidance of its three founders, Drs. Kenneth Arndt, Jeffrey Dover and Michael Kaminer, SkinCare Physicians integrated general dermatology, surgical dermatology, laser and cosmetic surgery under one roof near Boston. While this was not entirely novel, SCP differentiated itself early on by bringing together leaders in dermatology as equal partners. All of the originating physicians were in full time academic positions prior to establishing … Continue reading »
