Dr. Kenneth Arndt is one of the premier academic clinicians in dermatology and has had a strong impact on the practice and perception of dermatology both nationally and internationally. He is an Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society graduate of Yale University School of Medicine and trained in dermatology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Department of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Arndt is post Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School; Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Yale Medical School; Adjunct Professor of Medicine (Dermatology) at Dartmouth Medical School and Brown University Medical School; and President of SkinCare Physicians. He was Dermatologist-in-Chief at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for over two decades. The Kenneth A. Arndt Professorship in Dermatology was established at Harvard Medical School in 2000 “in recognition of Dr. Arndt’s many contributions to the field.” The current and all future chairmen of the Department of Dermatology at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center carry the title of the Kenneth A. Arndt Professor.
Dr. Arndt has broad clinical and clinical research interests. He specializes in the diagnosis and therapy of medical dermatologic diseases, all aspects of cutaneous laser surgery including treatment of vascular and pigmented lesions, hypertrichosis, photodamage, and scarring, and the evaluation and treatment of photoaging including the use of soft tissue fillers, chemodenervation (Botox, Dysport), radiofrequency (Thermage), photorejuvenation and adjunctive therapies.
Dr. Arndt is the author or editor of fifteen books. His Manual of Dermatologic Therapeutics is in its eighth edition and has been published in Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Indonesian, Japanese, Chinese, French and Vietnamese editions. Dr. Arndt is co-author with Dr. Jeffrey S. Dover of the book Illustrated Cutaneous Laser Surgery: A Practitioner’s Guide, and its subsequent edition as Illustrated Cutaneous and Aesthetic Laser Surgery, and also the book, Controversies and Conversations in Cutaneous Laser Surgery. Along with Drs. Kaminer, Dover and Rohrer, he is co-editor of the comprehensive text Atlas of Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Arndt is the co-editor of the books Cutaneous Laser Therapy: Principles and Methods, and Lasers in Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery and editor of Scar Revision. He is also co-editor of The Manual of Clinical Problems in Dermatology, six volumes of Diagnostic Challenges, and a comprehensive five book textbook series which includes the two volume Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery: An Integrated Program in Dermatology; Atlas of Cutaneous Surgery; Primary Care Dermatology; Pocket Guide to Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery; and Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery: Self Assessment and Review. Dr. Arndt has been course director at many national and international meetings, and often along with Drs. Dover and Kaminer of many top-rated Harvard Medical School and SkinCare Physicians Courses and Seminars including Practical Dermatology; Current Concepts in Cutaneous Laser Surgery; Cosmetic Surgery – Current Concepts and Evolving Techniques; and along with Dr. Dover, for almost three decades, the annual advanced symposium, Controversies and Conversations in Laser and Cosmetic Surgery.
Dr. Arndt is the author of over 400 scientific publications. He served as the editor-in-chief of the Archives of Dermatology for two decades and was a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Dermatology. Dr. Arndt co-founded the journal Medical and Surgical Dermatology: A Critical Guide to the World Literature, and was co-chief editor of the journal Seminars in Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery. He has served as associate editor of The Journal of Investigative Dermatology, co-editor of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, and has served on the editorial boards of The Harvard Medical School Health Letter, Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy, the Journal of Plastic and Oncologic Dermatology, the Skin Therapy Letter, and Lasers in Medical Science.
Dr. Arndt has been the President of the Boston Dermatological Club, the New England Dermatologic Society and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Dermatology. He has received many honors including Presidential Citations from the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the William B. Mark Memorial Award, the Leon M. Goldman Award, the Ellet H. Drake Lectureship Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award from ASLMS. He was also honored with the receipt of the Tribute Award from The Sturge-Weber Foundation for his contributions to laser medicine and surgery. In 2022, the Association of Academic Cosmetic Dermatology created the Kenneth A. Arndt Mentorship Award, and in 2024, the ALSMS established the Kenneth A. Arndt Lifetime Mentorship Award . Both honors pay tribute to Dr. Arndt’s exceptional and long-lasting commitment to mentoring and training the next generation of dermatologists.
